It looks like we’ll have even more adverse weather conditions to deal with over the coming days.

The Met Office says strong winds could buffet London, Surrey and the rest of south east this weekend, and has now issued a yellow warning alert.

It comes as temperatures take a noticeable tumble and on top of other weather warnings already issued.

The yellow alert for wind is in place for Sunday (December 10) between 4am and 7pm, with the Met Office’s chief forecaster saying: “A spell of strong winds is expected to move east across the far south of the UK.

"Gusts of 50mph are likely quite widely, with 60mph gusts in places and up to 70mph at times in the most exposed coastal locations.”

With temperatures expected to feel well below freezing on Friday (December 8), a yellow warning for snow and ice is in place until 6pm on Saturday (December 9).

There is also an amber warning in place for snow on Sunday between 4am and 6pm, with the Met Office saying: “A band of rain, heavy at times, is expected to move eastwards over the UK. With cold air in place, a spell of heavy snow looks likely to develop on its northern edge.

"10cm looks likely quite widely within the warning area, with 15-20cm in places. There is increasing certainty in the track and location of the heaviest snow.”

In west London, Hounslow Council is advising its residents and visitors to be prepared for the weather. It tweeted: “Dress warmly, keep active and clear icy pavements if possible. #weatheraware”

The Met Office has said there would be “plenty of sunshine” on Friday, but that “a few snow showers are possible” during the day in the south east.

Temperatures are not expected to rise above 4C but “biting winds” from Storm Caroline will likely make it feel as cold as -5C come Friday evening.

The Met Office said any snow showers “should ease” by Friday night when the skies are expected to clear, resulting in “very cold” temperatures as low as -3C and a “widespread frost” overnight.

The forecast for Saturday in London and south east England is another sunny and very cold day with temperatures reaching a high of 3C and the possibility of light snow showers.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday (December 12) for the area is: “Persistent rain spreading northeast Sunday, perhaps some snow in the northwest. Turning windy, with further rain spreading north Monday. Risk of further snow in west.

“Largely sunny and dry Tuesday.”
