You wouldn't think the weekend would be warm after a particularly cold Friday morning commute, yet London is set to finally get a bit warmer as a freak heatwave hits the UK.

With temperatures reaching upwards of 14C, the capital will be hotter than Mexico City this weekend, which will only reach 13C.

London and the South-West of England will be the warmest parts of the country as the temperature looks set to be around four times hotter than we typically experience this time of year.

After a very cold week so far this week , the rise in mercury is certainly welcome, with city-goers advised to make use of the abnormally warm temperatures while they can.

Come Monday, the typical chilly weather will return, with some snow, ice and high winds on its way.

A Weather Channel spokesman said: "It will be windy and cloudy, with rain likely.

"Winds could occasionally gust over 40mph."

Motorists have also been warned of tricky times on the road next week as temperatures plunge once again.

RAC spokesman Rod Dennis said: "Many motorists will get caught out, so we are urging drivers to get prepared now.

"When the temperature gauge drops, our patrols often end up dealing with up to 25% more breakdowns."
