Work continued overnight to fix a burst water main in Wealdstone , which caused 1.5m deep flooding and "considerable" damage on Tuesday (October 24).

Cecil Road remained closed, with diversions through the high street, on Wednesday (October 25) more than 24 hours after the pipe burst.

Harrow Council 's "clean team" were out in force removing debris left lining the streets, as the water provider, Affinity Water, repaired the first of two mains affected.

In a statement, Affinity Water said: "We have successfully repaired the 14" water main on High Road and anticipate full restoration of your water supply.

"The repair to the burst water main on Cecil Road is still ongoing and in progress.

"We still anticipate that all customers continue to have supply throughout the duration of these works. This may be at a lower pressure than normal until the repair is complete."

Emergency services were called to Cecil Road at 10.55am on Tuesday (October 24) and evacuated more than 100 people from their homes and businesses as the street filled with water.

Five fire engines and around 30 firefighters and officers attended the scene, wading through the flood and providing piggybacks to residents.

The footpath in High Road, Wealdstone, is not expected to fully reopen until Friday (October 27).

"Traffic management will remain onsite throughout the duration of the works, with multiple diversions in place."
