Families hoping to cool off after London recorded its hottest temperature of the year on Tuesday (July 19) were disappointed when a brand new Total Wipeout obstacle course in Hillingdon was closed within a day of opening.

Hillingdon Sport and Leisure Centr e in Uxbridge decided to remove the equipment after a huge rush to use it meant the pool became overcrowded.

But don't fret, getwestlondon has put together this list of five other places you can have a splashing time this summer that are unlikely to close in hot weather.

1. Wakeup Docklands for the adventurous

For the extreme and adventurous amongst our readers Wakeup Docklands near Royal Victoria offers water sports for all experience levels and abilities.

Whether you fancy trying your hand at wakeboarding or paddleboarding, this 'Oasis in the City' could be the perfect way to soak away the heat.

2. Liquid Leisure for a huge inflatable obstacle course

Liquid Leisure, not far from Heathrow Airport , is another option for those looking to test their skills at water sports, offering waterskiiing, wakeboarding and paddleboarding.

Boasting the largest aqua park in Europe, Liquid Leisure also offers its own huge inflatable playground to rival Hillingdon leisure centre's latest addition.

For the serious athlete there is also open-water swimming where you can tackle the 200 to 750 metre loops before unwinding at a lakeside jacuzzi and sauna.

3. Ruislip Lido for all the family

The 'splash pad' water facility at Ruislip Lido

For those who want to play it safe and enjoy the beach atmosphere without travelling to the coast, Ruislip Lido might be perfect for you.

The 60-acre lake has artificial sandy beaches and is surrounded by the Ruislip Woods, making it a more local option for west London residents.

Children's playgrounds and a water splash pad make it the perfect family location to relax and make the most of the rare British sunshine.

4. Battersea Park's one-day Splash Fest

Battersea Park will also be getting in the spirit for one day on August 7 when five aqua challenges are set up over a 2.5 kilometre course.

Splash Fest, hosted by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, will be aimed at 7 to 12 year olds but there is plenty on offer for all ages.

There will be an aqua shooting gallery, a slip and slide, as well as a bubbly brook set up at the park for one day only.

Unfortunately the event is set to take place after the current heatwave passes, but you never know , the tropical weather might return just for the occasion, with more hot weather expected in the coming weeks .

5. Hillingdon's outdoor lido

It opened on Tuesday (July 19), just in time for the hottest day of the year

And of course there is always the outdoor lido at Hillingdon Sport and Leisure Park in Uxbridge.

Even without the inflatable obstacle course the grade II listed outdoor pool is a great way to enjoy the July heatwave and swim a few lengths at the same time.

The Total Wipeout-style feature is set to return to the pool next week after the heatwave passes and the pool is less busy.
