Shoppers were forced to dive for shelter as torrential rain lashed down in Kilburn on Tuesday (July 12).

Following warnings earlier in the day that rush hour in the capital could be hit by downpours , the premonition came true slightly earlier than expected as heavy rain fell in parts of west London.

Kilburn High Road became a monsoon just after 3pm, with many pedestrians forced to flee into shops such as Aldi and huddle in the dry to wait out the storm.

It led to yet more flooding at North Harrow railway station , but this time the station survived the build up of water after being severely affected by flooding in June .

Instead, Station Road became submerged, with police attending to close the street and stop anyone being caught out by the flooding.

It meant there was no repeat of the mishaps many drivers got into in Ruislip last month, when heavy rain and flash flooding caused some vehicles to become stuck in large lakes that formed in the roads .

Other saw the funny side of it, however, as footage showed two men larking about as water gushed like a river down the road .
