An active 91-year-old man from Ickenham has shared his advice on how to stay young and active in old age after he swam one kilometre to celebrate his birthday this year.

Trevor Jaggar marked the big day last Friday (September 2) by swimming 40 lengths at Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex .

The former head of Vyners School started swimming in his early 70s and it has helped him keep fit and healthy.

Trevor, who lives in High Field Drive, told getwestlondon : “I swim three times a week and I did 40 lengths on my 90th so I wanted to do it again this year.

“It took me around an hour and a half.”

The former teacher lived in Perranporth in Cornwall in his youth and said he learned to surf at just three years old, but did not learn to swim until he was 18.

He said he also returned to surfing in his 70s.

After the monster swim at the indoor pool in Uxbridge , the father of two then went for a meal with his family and watched a football game the following day to mark the milestone.
