Flood warnings have been issued in west London after forecasters predict heavy rains will cause rivers to break their banks, with the worst affecting Hillingdon , Hounslow and Brent .

Government agency warnings show the River Pinn, River Crane and Wealdstone Brooks have been ear-marked for possible flooding and asks residents to 'be prepared'.

A Met Office spokesperson confirmed that showers will be more persistent throughout Saturday (January 9) evening.

The spokesperson said: “There will be a blustery southernly breeze, which will be gusty at times, with these showers. Temperatures aren't too bad with highs of 10 or 11 degrees – a little above average - but add on the effects of the breeze, wind and showers it will feel cooler.

“This will take us into quite a showery start to the night. Further, potentially quite heavy showers for this evening, during the first part of the night.

“The showers should ease during the early hours with some clearer spells in the early hours of Sunday (January 10) morning.”

The spokesperson confirmed that there is the potential for 'local flooding' overnight.

He continued: “Into this evening, there's potential that some of the showers, especially during the early part of this evening, could be heavy enough to give a risk of local flooding.

“Once this evenings showers wear off later this evening it shouldn't be as much of an issue in the west of London.

“But again, the showers could well develop again into the morning. Staying quite breezy, with the showers, and that breeze temperatures shouldn't get too low. It'll be a cooler night then of late with temperatures dipping down 4 or 5 degrees, just about escaping a frost.”

Sunday (January 10) should see scattered sunshine and showers with highs of 9 or 10 degrees.
