A highly-anticipated Primark store , arriving in Uxbridge , will start offering jobs from October next year.

The arrival of the major national retailer, which expects to open it's doors in December 2016, are part of plans for a dramatic overhaul of the Pavilions shopping centre.

A spokesperson for Primark said: “The new Primark store in Uxbridge will employ 155 and a recruitment campaign for this store will commence in October 2016.”

Jobcentre Plus have confirmed they'll be the “sole recruiter” for the store and will be in partnership with Uxbridge College to employ people from the borough.

Inderpal Mudhar of Jobcentre Uxbridge, also based in the Pavilions , said: “They're not getting any other agencies so we'll be the only recruiter for Primark.

“It will be on our Universal job match as vacancies so residents in Hillingdon can apply if they want to.”

Mr Mudhar says the Jobcentre will focus on the unemployed people on their books and will give them “all the support we can.”

He said: “We won't forget those who want to work in retail but does not have the qualifications, so we'll be running courses with Uxbridge College, our partner, in Customer Service and Customer Care.

“These will be short, sharp courses so when they go for interview they've got something ready to talk about.”

A spokesperson for Uxbridge College said: “Uxbridge College is working with the Job Centre to provide relevant training for the new jobs which will be available when Primark opens.”

Fifteen existing shops along the Pavilions' Chequers Walk Mall will be consolidated together with the mall itself, to create one giant unit.

The two-floor, 4,650sq/m space will be occupied by Primark, representing what will be the most significant development of the centre since it's refurbishment in the mid 1980s.

The High Street shopping centre, which currently houses around 90 stores, was built in 1971 as an open-roof facility and was altered a decade later when its open walkways were covered with glazed roofs.
