Multiple buildings have been evacuated after police were called to a "suspicious package" in Uxbridge town centre.

The package was reported in George Street, to the rear of intu Uxbridge shopping centre, where many offices are based, on Monday June 12.

Police were called at 2.22pm and immediately starting evacuating the area.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Officers are in attendance and road closures are in place.

"The Intu Shopping Centre and nearby buildings have been evacuated as a precaution.

"Enquiries continue."

Those caught up in the incident described the scene as "mayhem" as they were evacuated or told to stay inside their buildings.

One bystander said: "We have all been evicted from offices. Roads are being closed. I think it's (the suspect package) is by Harmon House."

Intu Uxbridge released a statement after the shopping centre had to be evacuated.

It said: "We can confirm that George Street at intu Uxbridge has been evacuated.

"We will update you as soon as we have further information.

"We’re sorry for the disruption and hope that we’ll be back to business as usual very soon."
