The Member of Parliament for Uxbridge and South Ruislip Boris Johnson took a time out of his hectic schedule to pump the iron at the newly refurbished gym at the Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex .

Mr Johnson was in the area on Friday (February 3) where he marked the official reopening of the exercise facility after a £500,000 make over by Fusion Lifestyle who run the gym on behalf of Hillingdon Council.

The Foreign Secretary made his second visit to the site after he opened the indoor poor and sports complex in March 2010 during his time as Mayor of London.

Mr Johnson had the opportunity to test out some of the new equipment

Mr Johnson said: “It's great to see this level of investment in an iconic site like Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex.

“It's important that we offer local residents great quality, accessible equipment to help them get active.”

The work was officially finished in December and the equipment was relocated to one of the sports halls.

Leader of Hillingdon Council, Ray Puddifoot , said: “Hillingdon is proud to be working with partners to deliver the very best in leisure and sporting facilities to improve the health and wellbeing of our residents.

“This is a great resource and we are pleased that its popularity is going from strength to strength.”

The gym now offers a larger weights area, new equipment and a refurbished indoor cycling studio.
