Harefield road users could face up to seven weeks of disruption with road closures and diversions due to water works.

Affinity Water are replacing old cast iron pipes, which could be up to 75-years-old, with new plastic pipes to provide a more reliable supply of drinking water and reduce the disruption caused to the community, when a water main bursts.

The old type of water pipes are often responsible for burst water mains in the area, as the material corrodes over time by soil.

Jackets Lane, White Hill, Shrubs Lane and Northwood Road could be affected from Thursday (July 23) onwards.

An Affinity Water spokesman says the work is “essential” as the old pipes have “reached the end of their useful lives”.

They said: “We are sorry for any inconvenience that may be caused during planned works to replace cast iron pipes in the Northwood Road area.

“To ensure safety to road users and to keep disruption to a minimum, Northwood Road and short sections of the junctions at Jackets Lane and White Hill will require road closures with diversions in place while we carry out the work.

"The water company is investing £75,000 into the Harefield maintenance, as part of £100m between 2010 and 2015 on improving the water mains in the region.

The spokesman added: “To minimise inconvenience caused, the road closures will be done in sections with the diversion routes agreed with Hillingdon Highways.

"We expect that the project will be complete by early September and we would like to thank our customers for their patience whilst we carry out these works.”

The anticipated finish date of the work is said to be September 2.
