Notting Hill Carnival goers could have their Bank Holiday Monday plans disrupted after two 24-hour bus strikes were called.

Tower Transit bus services is staging the walk-outs on Friday (26 August) and Monday (August 29) with the latter clashing with the second day of the street carnival.

Routes affected include several in west London which run close to the Carnival, which takes place on August 28-29. A full list can be found below.

Members of the Unite union at the bus operators opted for the stoppages in a row over the imposition of roster changes and “an increasingly hard line management to commit to constructive industrial relations”.

According to the union over 1,000 drivers, engineers and controllers at the Atlas Road bus depot in Park Royal, the Westbourne Park bus garage and the Lea interchange bus depot are involved in the dispute which affects 28 bus routes and follows an 89.8% vote in favour of strike action.

Britain’s biggest union admitted the second 24-hour stoppage will disrupt Notting Hill Carnival goers planning to travel by bus.

Do you support Tower Transit workers' walk-out during the Notting Hill Carnival?

Unite regional officer Simon McCartney said: “Tower Transit bus workers have reached breaking point over an increasingly belligerent management who have turned their back on constructive consultation and dialogue.”

Transport for London say the walk-out will affect less than five per cent of the capital’s bus network, with other services unaffected.
