The new global CEO of Uber was set to meet with Transport for London's (TfL) commissioner for crisis talks on Tuesday after the cab firm was banned in London.

TfL decided not to renew Uber's private hire licence on September 22, after declaring the US firm "not fit and proper" to hold one.

Issues flagged by TfL included Uber's approach to reporting serious criminal offences, how drivers' medical certificates were obtained and how criminal record checks were carried out.

It also criticised the company for its use of technology, which allegedly helps it to evade law enforcement officials.

The company was further hit on Monday (October 2) when it lost its northern European chief after she quit her post for a "new and exciting" role elsewhere.

Jo Bertram had worked for the company for four years but has left them in the wake of a major public relations disaster for the firm.

Uber's chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi was due to meet with transport commissioner Mike Brown to discuss the licence not being renewed.

The new CEO took over from Travis Kalanic last month following a series of scandals at the firm, which began operating in London in June 2012.

Transport for London's licensing decision on Uber

Mr Khosrowshahi penned an open letter after TfL's decision in which he apologised for "the mistakes we've made" and accepted that the company had "got things wrong".

He wrote that Uber would challenge the licence decision "with the knowledge that we must also change".

Uber's licence expired on September 30, but it can continue to operate during its appeal process.

Speaking last week, a TfL spokesman said: "Following an approach from Uber , and at the mayor's request, London's transport commissioner will meet with Uber's global CEO in London."

A petition launched by Uber against the TfL decision has now been signed by almost 850,000 people.
