Two people have been rescued as firefighters tackle a blaze at a block of flats in Notting Hill .

London Fire Bridage was called to the scene at Notting Hill Gate, near the junction with Holland Park Avenue, at around 9am this morning (Thursday, October 20).

The blaze started in a second floor flat, and video footage (above) captured by Twitter user @Kristin_writes, who lives opposite the block, showed smoke billowing into the sky.

Fire crews have rescued two people - a woman from the third floor and a man from the second floor.

The cause of the fire is not known at this early stage.

The Brigade received 12 999 calls, and described the fire as "severe" and "highly visible" with flames seen leaping from a window and smoke billowing out.

Six fire engines are at the scene and 30 firefighters and officers are taking on the fire.

The fire comes months after homes in a block of flats in Shepherd's Bush were gutted by a blaze later blamed on a faulty tumble dryer .

The fire brigade say they flames were brought under control by at 10.45am, with crews remaining there to dampen down.
