A police officer was taken to hospital after being stabbed at Notting Hill Carnival.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident, with the officer treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Another police officer was injured when bitten while attending an incident of criminal damage and, in a third incident, an officer suffered face injuries including a broken nose after being punched.

These were just a handful of a number of instances that saw police came under fire on Monday (August 31) - the final day of the bank holiday weekend festival.

Latest figures from the Met showed that a total of 407 people were arrested at the carnival over the weekend - the highest number in more than a decade - and 134 people were issued with dispersal notices.

They also seized a total of 3,500 nitrous oxide canisters with a street value of £17,000 during the weekend.

Eight of Monday’s arrests were for assaults on police officers.

Police figures also show that there was one arrest for a sexual offence, 44 for carrying knives, 61 for drug offences and five for ABH and common assault.

Incidents involving police officers included one on Monday afternoon in which an officer on patrol in Lonsdale Road was in the process of seizing 400 nitrous oxide canisters from a man engaged in alleged illegal street trading. The man attempted to run from police but, after being detained, punched the officer in the face, causing a dislocated nose, split lip and swollen knee.

The suspect was arrested for ABH while the officer was able to continue on duty after being treated by medics.

Later the same day, at 7.50pm, officers had bottles thrown at them as they tried to arrest a man in Ladbroke Grove under The Westway. Officers dressed in riot gear attended and the disorder soon stopped.

Shortly after, similar disorder began to break out further along Ladbroke Grove, with riot police again deployed. The disorder also quickly ceased.

It happened after a teenager was taken to hospital at around 1pm that same day with stab injuries. The 19-year-old went to a First Aid treatment centre on Treverton Street, at the junction of Ladbroke Grove. He was later taken to a hospital in central London, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police are still trying to ascertain where the stabbing took place, but have arrested three 18-year-old men in connection with the incident.

They are a man from Kensington & Chelsea, arrested on suspicion of GBH and possession of Class B drugs; another from Hammersmith & Fulham, who was arrested on suspicion of GBH and possession of an offensive weapon, and further arrested on suspicion of possession of Class B drugs; and a third man, who has not provided an address, who was arrested on suspicion of GBH, possession of an offensive weapon, and Class B drugs.
