Twickenham Stadium has put the likes of Barcelona's Nou Camp, Rio's Maracanã and Wembley in the shade to be named the world's best venue.

The home of English rugby was crowned 'venue of the year' in a ceremony held on the hallowed turf of Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

The arena booted competitors from across the globe into touch to win the coveted accolade in the Stadium Business Awards, which are voted for by an international panel of experts.

It also scooped the 'product innovation' gong for its use of cashless and contactless payment systems to improve the match day experience for fans.
