A week of Tube and rail strikes is to go ahead, despite train drivers returning to the negotiating table.

Train drivers' union Aslef will not be taking part in next week's two planned strikes - but the RMT union say it will still go ahead.

The RMT plans a 24-hour walk-out on First Great Western Services from Sunday (August 23), a 72-hour stoppage over the bank holiday weekend and two 24-hour strikes on the London Underground next week.

The first of the two Underground strikes will start at 6.30pm on Tuesday (August 25), and run throughout Wednesday (August 26).

Staff will walk out for a second time at 6.30pm on Thursday (August 27), again shutting down the network for all of Friday (August 28).

Transport for London (TfL) warn the Underground network is likely to be extremely busy between 4.30pm and 6.30pm on both days.

The First Great Western strike is being held over threats to jobs and services, and the introduction of new trains.

The union say the role of Train Guard is under threat - which they say will have an impact on customer safety.

On the new trains, the driver will be in charge of opening and closing doors, and will be responsible for deciding when it's safe for the train to go.
