Londoners might get more than an eyeful when travelling this Sunday as the No Trousers on the Tube Day takes place, encouraging people to wear no bottom halves whilst commuting.

The annual event will rear its head this weekend (January 8) and passengers might find themselves amidst hundreds boarding trains without wearing any pants.

Last year, most were dressed appropriately for the icy blasts with hats, gloves and scarves, but waist down, had nothing but pants, socks and shoes on.

This year it takes part on the same day as a planned 24-hour tube strike is due to start .

In a Facebook group which has more than 1,000 followers, members are instructed to once again join other cities across the world and "remove [their] trousers, and put them into [their] backpack".

A post says: "For the remainder of the journey, sit in the car as you normally would. Read a magazine or whatever you would normally do.

"Wear two pairs of underwear if it makes you feel more comfortable. Don’t wear a thong or anything else that might offend people. Our aim is to make people laugh, not p**s them off.

"We want this event to be fun and safe for everyone, so anybody found to be removing more than their trousers will be kicked off the train and reported to the British Transport Police."

In a post, it has been said the tube strikes, which are due to start at 6pm on Sunday January 8 , will not affect the event.

When asked why they participate, followers replied that "it's fun - and isn't that a good enough reason?"

Passengers are also encouraged to take part in the Mannequin Challenge part way through their day.

The viral challenge will see people freeze and not move for a short period of time whilst it's being filmed.

The yearly No Trousers on the Tube celebration stems from a New York prank in 2002 and has since spread to other cities as an annual celebration of silliness.

Vancouver, Prague, London and Milan are just a few of the world's capitals who have embraced the act, be it in the rain or during sunny conditions.
