Tributes have poured in for a teenager who died after falling off a hoverboard and being hit by a bus.

Nawaf Al-Tuwayan fell into the path of an oncoming 224 in Glacier Way, Alperton , on Thursday (December 10) evening.

The 15-year-old had reportedly been out buying milk for his mum , and a witness said he had not looked confident on the self-balancing scooter in the moments before the tragedy.

People have been paying their respects to the Acton High School student on Twitter and Facebook.

Sanya Sheikh tweeted: "Terrible terrible news. My heart goes out to Nawaf's family and the students and staff at @ActonHigh".

A fellow student posted on Facebook: "i can't believe such an honest heart has been lost. the atmosphere of acton high today was depressing and so much respect was shown towards you. RIP Nawaf :(((".

Acton High School, meanwhile, has offered support to pupils affected by Nawaf's death.

"We sadly have to tell you that one of our Year 11 students was killed in a road traffic accident on Thursday evening," the school posted on its website on Friday.

"Please let us know if your child has been affected by this and requires further support."

The teenager is believed to be the first person to die while using a hoverboard in Britain.

The vehicles have exploded in popularity in recent months and have become a novel new feature on the streets of Britain.

But officials have become increasingly concerned about the craze and have questioned their safety on numerous occasions.

An increasing number of airlines have now banned them over fears their batteries might explode and cause fires.
