Firefighters from across west London are at Hounslow High Street after a blaze erupted at a shopping centre.

London Fire Brigade said it was called to the scene at the Treaty Centre at 11.42am and sent crews from Heston, Twickenham and Heathrow.

The Treaty Centre has been evacuated following the blaze, according to reports on Twitter, with shoppers flooding into cafés along the High Street.

The brigade said part of a storage room was alight at the department store.

It would not confirm the identity of the store, but it is understood to be Debenhams.

The brigade said the cause of the fire is not known at this stage.

@ryanwilofficial tweeted to say: "Fire in treaty centre Debenham, immediately evacuated & fire brigade on scene straight away!"

He also tweeted photos from the scene, one of which showed the entrance to the Treaty Centre taped off as shoppers looked on.

Damage confined to the storage room

London Fire Brigade says damage was confined to the storage room, with the blaze prevented from spreading to the shop floor.

It says the cause of the blaze remains unknown at this stage.

And with that it’s time to close the blog and let those who were rudely interrupted get back to their shopping.
