Driving home for Christmas ? Or jumping on a train? Well do not let limited transport services spoil your festive holiday.

Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day are all public holidays in the UK, when transport runs with a reduced service.

Passengers should be aware that Christmas Day and New Years Day fall on a Sunday, so Tuesday, December 27 and Monday January 2 become substitute Bank Holidays.

But, it is not all bad news, as motorists will be able to benefit from congestion charge free driving over the festive period, and those of you enjoying the New Years Eve fireworks in central London, well your journey back home will be free of charge, courtesy of Transport for London .

Don't get caught out in the Christmas rush

If you are planning on travelling across London this Christmas, check below to see if your journey will be affected.

Christmas Eve

Tube: There will be an early finish on the Tube at around 11.30pm, therefore there will be no Night Tube service.

Charing Cross station will be closed until 5.30am.

Buses: Similarly to the tube, there will be no night service. 24-hour service will finish at around midnight.

Trains: London Overground services will finish at around 9.30pm.

There will be no National Rail services at Heathrow Airport.

There will be an early finish to the DLR, at around 10.50pm.

TfL trains will run every 15 minutes until 10pm.

Driving: Good news for motorists as the Congestion Charge will not apply.

Taxis: If you are travelling by taxi, try and plan your journey for before 8pm, because after this time, you will be charged an extra £4 per journey.

Trams: Running until the usual time, with less frequent services after 6pm.

Coaches: Those travelling on coaches should be warned that services will be extremely busy and there will be limited services from around 5pm.

Make sure you check changes to the timetables before travelling.

Emirates Air Line: Open from 8am until 8pm.

Rivers: No service on RB2 or RB6, Sunday service on RB4 and and services terminate early on the RB1 and RB1X.

Christmas Day

There will be no service on public transport, including the Tube, London buses, National Rail, TfL Rail, London Overground, DLR, Trams, Rivers or Emirates Air Lines.

Driving: No congestion charge.

Taxis: A black cab journey will cost you an extra £4.

Santander Cycle: Normal service, time to burn off that Christmas dinner!

Coaches: Limited service, some will run from from Victoria Coach Station to London airports.

Boxing Day

Most services including the buses, will be operating with a limited Sunday service.

Tube: Running from 7.45am with Sunday service.

Those travelling should be aware of closures on the District, Circle, Waterloo & City and Bakerloo lines.

Trains: No service on the London Overground.

No Great Wester rail service on National Rail, and no services at Heathrow Airport.

DLR trains will be running every 10 minutes and there will be no TfL Rail service.

Driving: Once again, the Congestion Charge will not apply.

Trams: Sunday service with a weekday start and finish and no Line 4 service.

Taxis: Charging an extra £4 per journey.

Rivers: No service.

Emirates Air Line: Open from 8am until 11pm.

Tuesday, December 27 (Bank Holiday)

Tube: Weekday start and finish times, but a Sunday frequency service with closures on the District and Circle lines.

Buses: Weekend service during the day, with a normal Tuesday service resuming at night.

Trains: Saturday service on the London Overground.

No National Rail service at Heathrow Airport.

A Sunday service will be in operation on the DLR and there will be no TfL trains running.

Driving: No Congestion Charge.

Trams: Sunday service with a weekday start and finish time. No Line 4 service.

Taxis: Added £4 charge to each journey before 6am.

Rivers: Weekend service on RB2 and RB4 and one boat will be operating on the Woolwich Ferry.

Emirates Air Line: Open from 8am until 11pm.

Wednesday, December 28 - Friday, December 30

Generally a Saturday service frequency on most transport networks and expect disruption on the Tube with closures on the District and Circle lines.

Motorists will still benefit from no Congestion Charge.

New Year's Eve

Great news for those travelling on TfL services between 11.45pm and 4.30am the following day, as all services will be opened up to use for free.

Tube: Services will run throughout the night.

Buses: Running with a Saturday service. Diversions will be in place in central London from early afternoon.

Bus hubs will be in operation across the capital.

Trains: London Overground will run with a Saturday frequency service, with some services running throughout the night.

Services on the DLR will run throughout the night and trains will operate every 15 minutes on TfL Rail during the day and throughout the night.

Driving: The Congestion Charge will not apply.

    Trams: Services will run throughout the night.

    Taxis: After 8pm, passengers will be charged an extra £4 per journey.

    Cycling: Some docking stations in central London will be suspended.

    Rivers: No service on RB6 and early finishes on RB1 and RB1X.

    New Year's Day

    Most transport services, including London Buses, London Overground and tram will be running with a Sunday service all day.

    Tube: There will be a reduced Sunday service after 12pm.

    Trains: The DLR will have an overnight service until 10am.

    Trains will run every 15 minutes on TfL Rail.

    Driving: The Congestion Charge will not apply.

    Trams : No Line 4 service.

    Taxis: Passengers will be charged an extra £4 per journey.

    Cycling: Some docking stations in central London will be suspended.

    Rivers: No service on the Woolwich Ferry or RB6.

    Monday, December 2 (Bank Holiday)

    Generally a weekend frequency service on most forms of transport.

    Cycling: Some docking stations in central London will be suspended.

    Driving: Congestion Charge will not apply.

    Taxis: Passengers will be charged an extra £4 if travelling before 6am.
