Three people have escaped a house blaze after their fire alarm warned them of the "serious danger facing them".

The mid-terrace house on Derley Road, in Southall, was partly damaged by fire on Thursday evening (April 30).

Firefighters confined the fire to the ground floor of the building and three people escaped the property before the brigade arrived.

One person was treated by the London Ambulance Service for minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Watch manager Keith Barnes, who was at the scene, said: “When crews arrived there was a well-developed fire on the ground floor and part of the staircase.

"Firefighters worked quickly to bring it under control.

"The house had a smoke alarm that alerted the residents to the serious danger facing them.

"It’s vital that you have a working smoke alarm fitted on every level of your home and it is tested regularly, as it gives you a vital early warning in the event of a fire.”

Two fire engines and around ten firefighters and officers from Southall fire station attended the incident.

The brigade was called at 10.30pm and the fire was under control at just before 11pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
