Thousands of people enjoyed a fun-filled day of activities at Chiswick's Super Saturday of Sport.

Drawing in its biggest crowd in the event's history, more than 8,000 people flocked to the fields of Turnham Green on Saturday (July 11) with the chance to play any of 40 different sports for free.

Among the popular sessions were freerunning, with Sebastien Foucan; wheelchair rugby; tennis with Will to Win; and American football with the London Hornets.

The event was opened by television and radio broadcaster Kelly Cates, with Mr Foucan starting the traditional mascot race.

Event organiser Kirsten Lonsdale was overwhelmed by the unbelievable turnout and said: "It is exactly the day we had been hoping for.

"The feedback has been incredible and just gives me more motivation to ensure the event happens every year.

"I really want to thank all of the sports clubs, local businesses and volunteers who made the day such a brilliant success.

"The event works because the whole community has really embraced it."

The police and army also popped in and, for the first time, free NHS health checks were being offered.

The event was started in 2013 to inspire the next generation to find their passion for sports, and was expanded to include adults last year.

A second Super Saturday of Sport, backed by Hounslow Council, is due to be held at Feltham Park on August 22.
