This is the heartbreaking footage from loved ones who lost a wife and mother because a driver decided to pick up their phone.

The video from the grief-stricken family of Zoë Carvin, who was killed in a crash, was released by THINK! road safety to mark National Road Victim Month.

The message is simple and clear: "Don't use your phone whilst you're driving."

The footage shows a series of hard-hitting clips from the husband and children of the mother-of-two who died in 2006 after a lorry driver crashed into queuing traffic while reading a text on his phone.

In the poignant messages her son says: "The last thing I ever said to her was I love you...I grew up 10 years in a second.

Family of Zoe Carvin's hard-hitting message during National Road Victim Month

"There's nothing that is so important it cannot wait. Don't use your phone whilst you're driving."

And her young daughter said: "I can't remember saying goodbye to her...everything died on that day because that man decided to pick up his phone."

Since 2017 new stricter measures have come into place to deter drivers from using a mobile phone behind the wheel.

As of March 1, new penalties were introduced for motorists caught committing the offence can gain six points on their licence and a £200 fine.

Motorists with less than two years driving experience will get their licence revoked by the DVLA.

National Road Victim Month is held every year in August to remember the people killed or injured on our roads.

It aims to raise awareness to make our roads a safer place.
