A Tesco delivery driver was hospitalised after a crash on Hammersmith Bridge during rush hour.

The 'freshly clicked' branded dot com van was involved in a collision with a London bus on Tuesday (May 9) morning.

Drivers were advised to seek alternative routes as delays to bus services reached over one hour, and traffic at Hammersmith gyratory was at a complete standstill.

The route was fully reopened by 10.50am.

The Metropolitan Police were on the scene and assisting with closing the lane, and believed the collision was “damage only”.

A spokesman for the force said: “We believe it is between a van and a bus.”

Live video footage showed traffic backing up for miles around, with Transport for London confirming roads were affected as far away as Shepherd's Bush Empire.

The road was closed westbound at Great West Road and the Hammersmith Road southbound slow moving.

It is understood the driver of the Tesco van will make a full recovery.

A spokesman for Tesco said: "I understand the driver is in hospital and is expected to make a full recovery."
