This is the psychedelic artwork which will greet visitors to a new apartment block being built just off Hounslow High Street.

Rahul Karavadra's swirly, brightly coloured design was the winner of a competition to decorate the exterior of housing association A2Dominion's 127-home development in Bell Road.

As well as getting to see his creation turned into 12mx4m mural to grace the new building when it is completed, the 15-year-old received £500 in gift vouchers.

Students at The Heathland School, in Hounslow, had been challenged to design a mural representing 'energy' and 'sustainability'.

Rahul's work was chosen from a shortlist of 12 and he was presented with his prize at the school in Wellington Road South on Tuesday (October 20).

His design incorporates a giant lightbulb, a person's face and what appear to be hedgehogs and fish.

Nicholas Yeeles, A2Dominion's executive commercial director for London, said: "We are delighted to have held this competition to give talented young people the chance to leave a lasting legacy on a major new housing development in the borough.

"The students at The Heathland School all rose to the challenge and Rahul’s idea stood out from a number of fantastic entries."

Planning permission for the new building at the vacant former Wheelhouse store site was granted in September. It is set to be completed in summer 2019.
