A teenage boy was arrested in Southall after being found in a children's play area armed with a knife.

Last Monday (October 30), officers from Ealing were on patrol in Green Drive when they spotted the 15-year-old sitting alone in Southall Park's children's play area.

After approaching and searching the teenager, they found a blue-handled knife with a locking Stanley blade and a long heavy ball bearing chain in his possession.

On top of that, they found a pair of gloves with plastic armouring on.

The items were confiscated by officers from the Operation Sparta Team, which focuses on the proactive removal of weapons from the streets of Ealing.

A spokesman for Metropolitan Police said: "This demonstrates the proactive work taking place by the Operation Sparta Team across Ealing.

"It has resulted in dangerous weapons being removed form the street through the effective use of stop and search."

These weapons were found in the possession of a 15-year-old boy

The juvenile, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested for possession of a bladed article and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was transported to Southall Police Station and subsequently released pending the outcome of the investigation.
