An 18-year-old man who was is in the UK illegally has been arrested at Bar Italia in Uxbridge by immigration officers.

A team from the Home Office attended the restaurant and bar at around 10pm on Sunday January 14 where they arrested the Albanian man who is now waiting to be removed from the country.

The Home Office said the arrest was intelligence-led.

A customer eating at the Nonna Rosa Italian, which is next door to Bar Italia, at the time described the moment an immigration van pulled up outside.

The customer, who asked not to be named, said: “On Saturday night while having a meal at the Nonna Rosa in High Street, Uxbridge at around 10pm, immigration raided.

“This left the customers not waited upon and our evening ruined.

“The large immigration vans pulled up.

“The management apologized and gave customers a 50% discount.”

Nonna Rosa is run by the same company that runs the Bar Italia, the Marlyebone Leisure Group.

Head of the West London Immigration Enforcement team, Chris Edwards, said: “We are working hard to tackle illegal working and those who abuse the UK's immigration system.

“Using illegal labour is not a victim-less crime; it cheats the taxpayer, undercuts honest employers and means legitimate job seekers are denied employment opportunities.

“It also exploits some of society's most vulnerable people.”

A statement from the Home Office said: “Acting on intelligence, Immigration Enforcement officers visited Bar Italia, High Street, Uxbridge on Saturday January 14.

“They arrested an 18-year-old Albanian man who was in the country illegally.
