The young teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, previously appeared at Wimbledon Youth Court on Tuesday (February 2) accused of the murder of Harjit Singh Dulai and for possession of an offensive weapon.
The teen spoke only to confirm his name at the Old Bailey.
He will next appear, at the same court, to enter his plea to the charges on April 21.
Harjit, 44, was pronounced dead on Wednesday January 27 after being stabbed by the tennis courts in Rosedale Park, off Albion Road.
Six arrests so far
The 44-year-old died in hospital, with police launching a murder investigation.
So far, six people have been arrested on suspicion of murder as part of the investigation.
Four men, aged 20, 29, 28, and 39, have been bailed to return to a police station on a date in late February pending further enquiries.
A fifth man, aged 39, has been released with no further action.
A post-mortem examination held on Friday January 29 gave the cause of death as a stab wound.
The 16-year-old boy was arrested on Sunday January 31 and subsequently charged with the murder .
