A busy summer wedding season is underway at the new register office which comes with a backdrop of magnificent gardens in Feltham .
The new home for registering of births, deaths and marriages have begun at Feltham Lodge, where an official opening ceremony took place on Friday (July 15).
A special tea party was held to celebrate the start of Hounslow council’s Registration and Nationality Service at the refurbished historic building which dates back to the late 1800s, on Harlington Road West.
Special guests at the opening included Mayor of Hounslow , Ajmer Grewal and Deputy Lieutenant for Hounslow, Maria Pedro who unveiled a commemorative plaque and made a speech in front of guests.
There was a tour of the building which now comes with more rooms for services for people of the borough to enjoy whether they are registering births, death or marriages.
There’s a setting for every occasion from wedding services, civil partnerships, reaffirmations and nationality ceremonies.
Cllr Grewal, said: “It was a wonderful afternoon and fantastic to see Feltham Lodge officially open and welcoming in our residents who use the services there.
“The Registration and Nationality Service is one of the most important services the council provides. It is fitting that people will now not only be provided with a great service from staff at times of great joy and also sadness in their lives, but at a place that is fitting for what they need.”
The new setting at Feltham Lodge for registrars is a change from the previous building at the Civic Centre on Lampton Road, Hounslow, which has been sold for housing.
Other council services will move to a smaller headquarters off Hounslow High Street near to the town centre.
Feltham Lodge is the former home of Age UK.
Susan Hayter, Head of Registration and Nationality Services, said: “We are settling into our new home now and residents who have visited us, have been very impressed with Feltham Lodge.
“As well as keeping the historic details which give the building character, it also has a very modern feel and is suitable for all the needs of those who use what is a very important service.
“Here at Feltham Lodge we can expand the service we offer and I think it will become a special place in local people’s lives.”
