A contemporary metalwork sculpture has been chosen as the art work which will go on permanent display at a new housing development.

The striking piece by Ian Turnock will adorn the new Notting Hill Housing’s Brackenbury Square, near Shepherd’s Bush Market.

It will form a part of part of Brackenbury Square’s exterior design - a development of modern one, two and three-bedroom apartments located on the cross-section of Hammersmith Grove and Goldhawk Road.

Entrants had been challenged to create a spectacular original piece of work that will adorn the development.

The artist said: “My starting point for the Notting Hill commission was to explore the natural history of the area as pasture and shelter for shepherds on their way to market.

“I was particularly inspired by the greenery of Ravenscourt Park which dates from the 14th century and is now part of a conservation area. From the photographs I took of leaf and branch silhouettes against the sky, I created three contemporary vignettes of Ash, Horse Chestnut and London Plane trees.

“The artwork will comprise three circular laser-cut stainless steel wall sculptures backed by solid circular panels. The organic forms provide a reminder of nature in contrast to the architecture of the building and surrounding urban setting.”
