Storm Henry will batter Britain with severe gale force winds, the Met Office has said.

The area of low pressure is to approach the UK from the Atlantic and north of Scotland, but will cause blustery winds for London.

Meteorologists have said the city can expect "rather cloudy and windy spells, with strong wind continuing into Tuesday."

Weather will remain unsettled over the coming days with the prospect of further deep Atlantic depressions bringing spells of south westerly wind and showers.

Those travelling to Scotland are urged by Scottish authorities to re-consider their travel.

Jacqueline Taggart, of ScotRail Alliance, said: ""I would really urge people to look at their travel plans for the whole day.

"We will be running services in the morning that, due to Storm Henry, we will be unable to run in the afternoon. So, please do make arrangements for both your outward and return journeys."

It follows Friday night which saw Storm Gertrude leave thousands of homes without electricity.
