Journeys to work and further afield are being hampered by Storm Doris, which is hitting London on Thursday (February 23) morning.

Disruption is being caused on rail lines and flights to and from Heathrow are being affected by the strong winds.

The Met Office has also issued a ‘amber warning’, saying very strong winds are expected, with gusts of 50-60mph expected.

Passengers on Southern Rail, who had their journeys disrupted by strike action on Wednesday (February 22), have been told speed restrictions implemented because of Storm Doris means a fill service will be unable to run across the network.

Heathrow says the strong winds are expected to cause delays and cancellations, and is urging passengers to check your flight status with your airline prior to arriving at the airport.

LFB advice

Offering safety advice, an fire brigade spokesperson said:

Firefighters are always on hand should any buildings, hoardings or scaffolding be left in a precarious position and posing a risk to life because of high winds.

“To help stay safe during windy weather people should always clear gardens, balconies and window sills of anything that could be blown away. They should also take extra care if they venture outside and be careful using candles in the case of a power cut.

“We’ve also received a number of calls from people who have got locked out after the wind has blown their front door shut with their cooking on or children inside. If you’re sticking your head outside make sure you take your keys with you.”
