Ambulances, fire engines and police vans rushed to Kilburn High Road this afternoon after the roof of a Costa Coffee shop collapsed from heavy gusts of wind.

Emergency services closed both directions of the busy A5 at around 2.30pm on Thursday (February 23) as they tried to make the area safe from the weather conditions bought on by Storm Doris .

A Metropolitan Police officer told getwestlondon at the scene: "The roof the Costa did collapse and the pedestrian area will stay closed for at least two hours whilst we make sure the damage has been removed safely."

Pedestrians were told to cross on the other side and cordons remain in place near Bokor's pub

A heavy police presence remains on the scene although the roads re-opened at around 4.15pm, which Met officers explained was due to "flying debris" still coming off the building.

Cordons remain in place from Bokor pub next door to the Costa and upwards towards Edgware Road as fire engines inspect the area.

It is not yet known if anyone was injured in the incident and London Ambulance services have been contacted.

Police have said the pedestrian area still isn't safe, two hours after the incident

Storm Doris has caused chaos across west London as fallen trees, fences and Heathrow flight disruptions all make way for wind speeds of around 60mph.

Network Rail has urged people to check before they travel and people have been told to stay vigilant after a tree fell on a house in Chiswick.

Talbot Road, Isleworth

London Fire Brigade said it has attended six Storm Doris incidents so far today (Thursday, February 23), including one call in Chiswick which saw a tree fall into a house.
