Heavy showers are expected in London this week as April showers head to the capital earlier, bringing with it blustering winds and a risk of hail.

A week of miserably bleak weather is expected (March 21) after forecasts showed a blast of Arctic wind bringing cooler temperatures and heavy rain.

A Met Office spokesman said: "A chilly start with showers becoming rather more widespread through the morning.

"Showers turning locally heavy with a chance of hail and thunder, mainly in the afternoon. Some places staying dry. Colder than recent days in brisk winds."

They added: "These may be heavy with a risk of hail, and thunder by Wednesday."

The outlook from Thursday is set to be a little clearer, although some rain is still to be expected, according to meteorologists.

Temperatures through the week are said to be around five degrees celsius although a bit of scattered sunshine might brighten up the days towards the end of the week.
