A speeding car driver shook off from police in a high speed car chase in Neasden and later collided with a van before disappearing from the scene.

Metropolitan Police officers from the Safer Transport Team were on routine patrols on Monday (December 5) when they spotted a speeding motorist in Neasden Lane.

Police drove alongside the car at around 11.15pm as it stopped nearby, but in an astonishing move, the driver drove off "at high speed".

Police spotted the speeding driver along Neasden Lane and spoke to the driver as he stopped nearby

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has been informed of the incident.

A Met police spokesman told getwestlondon: "As the car stopped nearby, police drove alongside and spoke with the driver.

"The car then made off from police at speed.

"Police attempted to follow the car, but due to its speed lost contact with it."

Despite police chasing the car, officers lost it as the motorists drove at high speeds.

But a short time later the car was spotted again after colliding with a van in the A406 North Circular Road.

Police caught the car speeding on Neasden Lane but couldn't catch up with him as he accelerated off

Commuters faced a lane closure as officers investigated on the A406 around the A404 Harrow Road junction.

Officers reported the van driver was "not seriously injured", but the speeding car's owner was nowhere to be seen and enquiries continue to trace him.

A Met Police spokesman added: "Officers from the Directorate of Professional Standards are investigating alongside colleagues from the Roads and Transport Policing Command.

"As is routine is such cases, the IPCC has been informed."
