A brothel in Southall that attracted “large groups of drunken men” and left neighbours “enduring hell” has been closed nearly a year after it opened.

On Friday (December 1), officers from Metropolitan Police attended Ealing Magistrates' Court in order to be granted a closure order for a property in Clarence Street, Southall.

The address first began operating as a brothel in spring but, according to Ealing Police, prostitutes eventually moved out due to “continued police interference”.

However, in August they returned and began “disrupting neighbours lives all over again”, reportedly attracting large groups of drunken men who would “hang around the area”, police said.

A spokesman for Ealing Police said: “[Drunk men] woke up residents in the middle of the night and harassed women coming to and from work.

“On two occasions [they] walked straight into the wrong address, frightening the occupants inside.

“We have also had reports of drug use, human trafficking, false imprisonment and sexual assaults all linked to the address.”

Working in conjunction with the anti-social behaviour team, Ealing Police built a case for a closure order based upon intelligence reports and victim impact statements.

Representatives for the landlords fought against the order but a police spokesman suggested the “defence was not strong enough to rebuke the weight of evidence against the address”.

The application for a three-month closure order for the Southall property was granted at Ealing Magistrates' Court on Friday (December 1).

Speaking after the ruling, Southall Green dedicated ward officer PC Michael Meehan said this was great news for the “long-suffering residents”.

“We are absolutely delighted to have secured a closure order following a hard-fought battle at court,” PC Meehan said.

“The local residents I have spoken with have endured hell over the previous six months and I hope this can bring them some well-deserved relief.”
