A signalling problem is causing disruption to train services between Putney and Barnes.

There are a number of cancellations and delays on the route, which are expected to last until 2pm on Tuesday (October 10).

South Western Railway has advised not to travel unless necessary on the Hounslow loop as services are sparse.

While all lines have re-opened, passengers are advised to check their journey before travelling.

The rail operator is working to restore services with at least one train an hour in both directions by midday on the Reading line.

Those travelling towards London are urged to travel to Reading and use Great Western Railway services to Paddington or travel to Ascot for services via Guildford to London Waterloo.

Replacement buses are running between Reading and Staines via Ascot.

A shuttle bus is in operation from Virginia Water and Weybridge calling at Chertsey and Addlestone.

South Western Railway said on its website: "We strongly advise you to check your individual journey before you travel whilst we recover the train service as some stations will still not have a train service.

"We advise that you do not travel unless necessary on the Hounslow loop as services will be sparse.

"A fault with this system means we are unable to communicate to train drivers that a section of track is safe to proceed onto.

"We are sorry for the disruption caused to your journey."

Passengers are also advised of a suspended service on the District line between Wimbledon and Earls Court due to a signal failure at Parsons Green.

Tickets will be accepted on London Underground and Transport for London local bus services.
