Sleep rough for a night "so others don't have to" - that's the plea from a national charity working to raise funds for youth homelessness.

The YMCA's Sleep Easy sponsored sleep out takes place this Friday (March 20) at Christ the Saviour Church, in Ealing Broadway, from 8pm until 7am the following day.

Councillor Tej Ram Bagha, Mayor of Ealing, will open the annual event at 8.30pm.

Volunteers will be spending the night with just cardboard boxes for shelter to raise money to support local vulnerable people.

Councillor Gary Malcolm, leader of Ealing's Lib Dems, raised £540 by participating last year and has raised £700 ahead of Friday.

He said: "The YMCA does a great job reducing homelessness and providing people with advice on housing and shelter. The event itself is a great idea.

"The YMCA gives advice so people can have a chance to get a job or training. There's a lot of younger people who have had a bad start to life and the YMCA gives them a second chance to almost rebuild and start again."
