A concerned shopper is warning people to be on their guard in the run-up to Pancake Day after she was hit by an egg hurled at her in Uxbridge.
Katrina Patterson has alerted the Hillingdon Neighbourhood Watch scheme, police and council after she was splattered by an egg when she finished shopping on January 27.
Luckily the missile narrowly missed her but she was left with its remnants on her clothing after it hit the pavement.
It happened at around 6.15pm, and Ms Patterson, from Uxbridge, said: “I was hit by an egg flying from The Pavilions area as I went down the Crown Walk spiral walk way.
“It was lobbed from a far distance and travelling at some speed. It would have hurt it had hit me directly.”
She scoured the vicinity for the culprits but believes they ducked and hid after throwing the egg.
She said: “I guess they threw and ducked down so I couldn’t see who did it, and it was dark.
“I don’t think they realise the effect it has on people and how damaging egg is on people’s clothes. And if it caught you on the face it could be quite dangerous.”
Ms Patterson said she has also noticed a number of egg shells on the roads and believes it to be linked to Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Day.
She said: “It happens almost every year. I noticed there were a lot of egg shells when I was walking around and I realised it will be Shrove Tuesday soon.”
Unfortunately for Ms Patterson, it is not the first time she has been hit by an egg. The same thing happened to her about five years earlier near the Tesco beside Cedars Car Park in Uxbridge.
She has reported the latest incident to the police and Hillingdon Council.
