A photo showing a group of hooded youths carrying an assortment of dangerous bladed weapons is going viral.
The disturbing image shows five boys in an alleyway, with four of them holding weapons including a machete, baseball bat and hatchet.
It was posted on Facebook on Friday (April 21) and has since been shared thousands of times.
It is not known where the photo was taken, and there is nothing to suggest the youths pictured are from the capital.
Earlier this month Met figures revealed a big increase in knife crime offences , with a top police officer acknowledging a problem among younger people.
The Scotland Yard figures showed knife crime was up by 24% year-on-year in 2016/17.
Met Assistant Commissioner Martin Hewitt outlined a “phenomenon” of young people feeling the need to carry a knife to feel safe, adding: “Young people carrying knives are doing so for a variety of reasons including status, criminality and self-protection but only around a quarter are affiliated with gangs.
“There is a phenomenon of people feeling that you need to carry a knife to be safe.”
