This shocking video shows a brazen and unsuccessful moped theft on the streets of London .

It features a moped rider being grappled and attacked before members of the public come to his aid.

The would-be robber is then seeing fleeing on the back of another moped which appears at the scene.

The video was posted on the Facebook page of Joel Willingham and occurred on Monday (July 17) at around 6.45pm on Penge High Street, in south east London.

Police have confirmed they are investigating and say no arrests have been made.

The suspected thief jumped on the back of an accomplice's moped to escape the scene

According to Mirror Online, the video shows the victim struggling with the suspect, who appears to be trying to take his rucksack.

After failing to do so, attempts are then made to take the man’s moped, which he was allegedly pushed off during the attack.

However, brave Good Samaritans stop him from getting away. He and another alleged attacker, waiting on another bike, then drive away from the scene.

During the incident, the victim did not let go of his grip on his rucksack. He was filmed swinging it round, using its force to knock the alleged attacker off his feet.

Both men then fell over onto the pavement. The footage shows a member of the public then running over and pinning the rider down to the ground.

The rider, wearing a black helmet liner, manages to escape and throws his motorcycle helmet to a second rider as he apparently orders him to go.

The victim, on the left, clings on to his rucksack as the suspect attempts to grab it

The Good Samaritan, in a black t-shirt, presses his body up against the rider’s bike in an attempt to stop him from leaving.

The alleged would-be thief is forced to leave what is thought to be the man’s moped behind and jump on the back of his pal’s bike.

Police say the victim was not seriously injured, but according to Mr Willingham, did break a bone in his foot.

Mr Willingham is now raising £600 on JustGiving for repairs to the victim’s bike, helmet and personal belongings .
