Readers have had mixed reactions to the the imminent arrival of Lidl in Shepherd's Bush.

The German budget supermarket will open in the new year at the same site occupied by Morrisons in the W12 Shopping Centre.

Shopper Timothy Warner, who spoke of his upset when Morrisons moved out of town towards the end of last year, said it was good news for the area.

He told getwestlondon : “People will love it as Morrisons is still being missed and people are still upset it’s closed .

“When I’m shopping with my Morrisons bag for life I have people come up to me asking where it is.

“But people love a bargain and they’ll be happy to see Lidl.”

The new store is set to open in early 2018 bringing with it up to 40 new jobs.

It will have 1,245 sq m sales area once a refit is complete.

The arrival of Lidl was also welcomed by Hammersmith MP Andy Slaughter .

He said: “It’s great news.

"Morrisons decision to pull out was very disappointing.

“There is a need for a supermarket in the W12 Centre in its own right and as an anchor store.

“So I am delighted that Lidl and the centre owners have worked to achieve the opening.

“It was very clear from my inbox that there is a real demand from residents and I wish the store well.”
