Tube passengers using the Metropolitan Line suffered severe delays on the line in almost 30C heat after a fire alert.

The alarm was raised at Finchley Road station at around 2.30pm on Sunday (June 18), forcing part of the line to close, between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Aldgate stations.

Harrow-on-the-Hill station was described as "chaos" during the disruption.

There were severe delays on the entire line, in both directions, after both a fire alert near Finchley Road and a signal failure at Wembley Park.

At around 3.30pm, a spokeswoman for Transport for London said: "We did have two incidents but both of those are now cleared.

"A fire alert was raised but there was no fire and it was found to be clear.

"The Metropolitan Line is no longer suspended but there are still severe delays."
