A popular Ealing pub was damaged by a fire in the early hours of this morning (January 4).

Four fire engines and 21 fire fighters were called to the The New Inn, in St Mary's Road, at 2.50am.

The fire damaged an outbuilding and part of the ground floor of the pub before it was under control 4.15am.

Six people left the pub before London Fire Brigade (LFB) arrived, after being alerted in the outbuilding by a neighbour.

The pub's fire alarms also sounded.

Watch manager, Giorgio Petrelli, who was at the scene, said: "It's incidents like this one that show how important it is to have a working smoke alarm that you check regularly.

"Everyone should have at least one smoke alarm on every level of their home and the safest option is to have those linked together.

"This will give the earliest warning if there is a fire.

"Thanks to the smoke alarm in the pub and a vigilant neighbour the people inside were alerted to the fire and got out uninjured."

Crews from Ealing, Southall, Chiswick and Acton fire stations attended the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

It comes just four days after a fire hit the Aeronaut pub in Acton during New Year's Eve celebrations in the early hours of Sunday (January 1).
