A talented pupil at a school in Westminster jumped to victory when she struck gold at an international equestrian competition in Spain.

Millie Mason, who lives in Regents Park and attends Portland Place School, rode her trusty steed Freddie to first place in The Sunshine Tour.

She beat 90 other riders in the six-week long show jumping event, which was held throughout February and March.

Competing with fences as high as 1.3m, Millie and Freddie have stormed the competition during the Equestrian Sunshine Tour which is a world leader in organised horse shows.

Sophie, who is studying for her GCSEs at the Marylebone prep school, said: “It was a fantastic event and I am so pleased that I could showcase my own and Freddie’s skills at such a prestigious tour.

“It was so exciting to have won such a tough test, the competition was extremely stiff and I cannot wait until next year to do it again.”

Portland Place School headmaster David Hyman commented: “Millie is an incredibly talented student and athlete and it is an honour to have her at our school. She should be proud of such an incredible achievement.”
