Russell Brand spoke to young people no longer in mainstream education at a North Kensington centre earlier this month.

The comedian and activist visited Epic Learning School in Lancaster Centre, Lancaster Road on March 9, where he discussed a variety of issues from drug use, adult relationships and how he overcame the wrong decisions he made as a young person and adult.

The event was organised by Kensington and Chelsea youth service Epic CIC as part of their National Careers Week programme.

During the talk Mr Brand encouraged the young people to take control of their lives and listen to their inner voices to find lasting peace.

Vicki-Harrison Carr, Epic Learning principal and ambition manager hosted the talk and said: “Much of what Russell said resonated with our students.

“His honest portrayal of the bad decisions he made in his past is something that the young people in attendance welcomed and could relate to.

“I saw a couple of light bulb moments when he was talking about certain issues and I hope his visit will inspire the students to take control of their future.”

One Epic Learning student who attended the talk said: “Russell was really inspirational. He showed me that I can still succeed in my future, even though I’ve made a couple of mistakes in my life - you should never give up!”

And Mr Brand said of the visit: “Through community and love we can create opportunity, a positive and loving facility.”
