A popular Ruislip Manor bakery, that caught fire just before Christmas, is back open for business thanks to a team of dedicated helpers.

The fire, which damaged a third of the ground floor shop, Sixty Six Bakery on Victoria Road, took hold on Wednesday December 23.

Since then, a dozen people including staff and family members worked tirelessly over the festive period to get the business back on it’s feet.

Simon Morris, who has owned Sixty Six for 28 years, thanked those who helped and his loyal customers.

He said: “We had a very unhappy Christmas with a lot of hard work cleaning for 12-14 hours a day.

“We cleaned and we cleaned and we cleaned. An electrician came in on Boxing Day for four days to get us up and running.

Mr Morris and his team ensured the shop was spotless, painted it, and took several trips to Harefield tip to clear the damage.

He added: “We’ve had fantastic support from staff and lots of lovely comments from customers praising us for being back open so quickly with minimum disruption.

“Usually a fire like this would cause a business to close for two or three months.”

Firefighters tackled the blaze at the bakery

A London Fire Brigade (LFB) spokesperson described how nearly a third of the bakery, six metres by 15 metres in size, was destroyed by the fire.

He said: “30% of the ground floor shop was damaged by fire.

“A hose reel and thermal imaging camera were used.”

LFB confirmed that no one was injured in the blaze.

Mr Morris re-opened the family-run bakery for business on Tuesday December 29.

He has been the owner for 28 years, after taking it over from his father, who bought the premises in 1972.
