Roads in Kensington and Chelsea will be closed in July when thousands of cyclists pedal through the borough.

This year's annual Prudential RideLondon will take place on July 31 and see thousands of cyclists, both amateur and professional, will take to London and Surrey’s streets.

Despite the final route yet to be finalised, Kensington and Chelsea Council is urging residents, community groups and businesses planning any activities on the day to be aware that there will be significant traffic disruption to roads and public transport.

It expects the route to be broadly similar to previous years , where roads in the borough were closed at around 5am and reopened at 8pm.

Last year, close to 100,000 cyclists pedalled through Knightsbridge, Brompton Road, Cromwell Road, King’s Road, Cheyne Walk, Ashburnham Road, Cremorne Road and Chelsea Embankment.

Cllr Tim Coleridge, head of transport, said: “This really is a huge event involving thousands of cyclists of all abilities. With so many roads closed across London and the borough, the best way to minimise disruption is to put the date in your diary and plan ahead.

“I would urge any residents or community groups who have other plans on Sunday 31 July to check the event organiser and TfL’s websites for the latest information.”

The event, similar to the London Marathon but on wheels , sees professional cyclists take part in a race while thousands of amateurs raise money for good causes.

Further information will be found during the build-up to the event on the organiser's website .
