One west London borough has some of the country's largest and most expensive homes, figures obtained by getwestlondon reveal.

The average home owner in Kensington and Chelsea is likely to live somewhere one and-a-half times the size of the national average.

Figures obtained from the Office for National Statistics show that homes bought in England and Wales in 2016 were an average 104 square metres in size.

In Kensington and Chelsea the average size was 133.3 square metres and homes were not only larger but much more expensive with most buyers paying around £2.6million.

Head of Strutt & Parker's Chelsea office Jonathan Inglis, said: "Chelsea is a great location and remains exceptionally popular with a broad range of buyers.

"It’s what we regard as a 'flight to quality' – with prices in prime central London coming down, people are in a better position to buy good quality homes, and Chelsea has some of the best properties London has to offer."

Across England and Wales, the average price per square metre was
£2,115 for flats and £4,045 for houses.

Kensington and Chelsea was the most expensive spot to buy a house in England and Wales with an average price of £19,400 per metre squared, around eight times the national average.

Most houses bought in the borough had around 5.6 habitable rooms, which doesn’t even include bathrooms, kitchens and utility rooms.

London has the highest house price per square metre (which includes both houses and flats) in England and Wales with an average cost of more than £6,500 for each square metre, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Seven bedroom Chelsea property also has 6 bathrooms and 4 reception rooms and is approximately 9989 sq ft in size

Between 2004 and 2016, price per area in London nearly doubled (98%)
with the East of England and the South East both increasing by around
55% over the period.
